In a bold, unapologetically indigenous move, Nigerian Afrobeat star Mr. C.G.O teams up with the dynamic and genre-bending GrindFRVR to release “Pekem” — a culturally rich, high-energy record performed entirely in the Igbo dialect.
“Pekem” isn’t just a song — it’s a sonic celebration of tradition, rhythm, and unapologetic hometown flavor. With infectious melodies, rooted percussion, and lyrics that resonate with both street wisdom and festive vibes, Pekem is quickly becoming a breakout anthem both in Nigeria and across diaspora communities.
The collaboration between Mr. C.G.O and GrindFRVR is nothing short of seamless — each artist bringing their own unique edge, charisma, and vocal signature to a record that feels both ancient and futuristic. Their chemistry is loud, their delivery is spiritual, and their presence on the beat is electrifying.
But what truly sets Pekem apart is its visual ambition. Currently being shot in Nigeria, the upcoming music video will feature a staged village get-together, complete with authentic traditional outfits, masquerades, cultural dance, and native color palettes that reflect the soul of Igbo heritage. The duo isn’t just representing — they’re reclaiming cultural expression in Afrobeat through both sound and sight.
As Mr. C.G.O puts it:
“We didn’t come to impress — we came to express. ‘Pekem’ is our love letter to the roots.”
This record is more than music — it’s movement.
And together, Mr. C.G.O and GrindFRVR are proving that when you go home — you go harder.
